Hurricane Pet Safety Tips
Hurricane Earl continues to pick up speed racing closer to the U.S. East Coast and hurricane warnings and watches have been issued. According to the Weather Channel, Earl is expected to hit North Carolina’s Outer Banks tonight. Earl’s next stop is Long Island and Cape Cod. This will affect millions of people and their pets.
The Humane Society of the United States reminds people for the need of an evacuation plan for your four legged family members if you are forced to leave your homes. Here’s an interesting fact from a Zogby poll, more than 358 million pets reside in 63 percent of American households. The poll found that nearly 60 percent of pet owners won’t evacuate if they can’t bring their
pets with them. We want to know would you stay behind if you couldn’t take your pet?
The Humane Society says pack, in advance, an emergency kit for your pet:
• Three-or-more-day supply of food in airtight, waterproof container, and drinking water.
• Bowls for food and water.
• Current photos and physical description of your pets, including details on markings.
• Medications, vaccination records and pet first aid supplies.
• Comfort items such as a toy and blanket.
• Small garbage bags.
• For dogs include: leash, harness and a sturdy carrier large enough to use as a sleeping area.
• For cats include: litter and litter box and a sturdy carrier large enough for transport.

hey, nice blog…really like it and added to bookmarks. keep up with good work
No way would we leave our family. We accepted the responsibility for them when we adopted them, and we will stand by that. Our dogs go with us regardless of what happens.
There is no way I would ever go anywhere without my four dogs and two cats. Even if we had to live in my van, they would not be left behind….. NO MATTER WHAT!
Our pets are part of our family. We believe family sticks together no matter what.
